FAQ

What is a Gelp-spot?

Gelp-spot is an unforgettable impression in travel that you want to share. For example, you ducked into a café and were immediately plunged into the authentic atmosphere of Italy that brought you indescribable euphoria; or you climbed up on the roof of a house, where a gorgeous view of the city was laid out before you. These things are all around us, in every city, but not everyone stumbles upon them in a strange city.

How can a Gelp-spot best be described?

Describe your emotions and impression. Whatever you feel – write! You can simply mark a spot on the map, or put in an address to denote the place.
If you have a photo, upload it to the description of the Gelp-spot. It will help others perceive the place better and feel it’s atmosphere.

How do you find Gelp-spots?

After you share your impressions about a place, it is placed on the general map of Gelp-spots. There, you can find places that made an impression on others. However, if you can’t find anything for you on the map, pop on over to the main page and ask other travelers to share their new Gelp-spots with you.

What is the right way to request a Gelp-spot?

In order for your request to be found by those who want to share their opinion with you, try to describe, as best you can, your wishes. The more details about your travels you give, the more useful your Gelp-spot suggestions will be.
We recommend your question include:
  • circumstances of your journey: how long you will be in the area, are you going by yourself/with your family/or with friends,
  • your interests/passions/preferences.

Is it obligatory to register to put in a Gelp-spot request or share a Gelp-spot?

You can also choose to register using your email. All you have to do is enter your name, email, and a password. You will shortly receive a confirmation email. Follow the link in that email and you will be registered.

How can I receive notifications for only those places with which I can help?

First off, you need to fill out your map of travels. Go to the settings and indicate which places you would like to receive notifications about. Also indicate those places that you have visited but do not have enough experience to give your impressions of. In order to do this, you just have to click on the pennant with the name of the city or country from the list under the map.
Then in the “Notification” section, you can choose to only receive notifications about the countries and cities that you have visited and are ready to share you impressions about.

What does the “Gelp” badge mean in Gelp-spot?

The “Gelp” badge is a way to show that you like that Gelp!spot. It’s just like saying, “Cool! I want to do that, too!” Likewise, if somebody shared Gelp!spot on your request, the “Gelp” badge is like a sign of appreciation: “Thanks! That was exactly what I was looking for!”

Why would you change the status of a request?

If you get a Gelp-spot that you like, then change the status to “Got Gelp-spot”. It allows other users to pay more attention to the other requests that haven’t yet received a “Gelp-spot.” We recommend always changing your status when you get a satisfactory response.

Can I send a private message to another user?

Yes, you must go to that user’s profile (for example, click on their avatar.) There, you will see the “Send a message” button - click it and enter your message in the window that appears.

We drafted some rules that are to be upheld by all users on Gelpme. If you notice something that breaks these rules, please use the “Report” button. That way, you will show the user that they are in violation of the rules and that it is important to be attentive when posting.
